The 3rd Sound of Dragon Music Festival – April 5-8, 2018
“Vancouver’s biennial celebration of Asian sounds returns with a program that spans everything from new Chinese chamber music to a genre-smashing showcase of intercultural improvisation”. – Georgia Straight
The 2018 Sound of Dragon Music Festival will present the collaboration between Turning Point Ensemble (Vancouver) & Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra (Taiwan), Geling Jiang’s new ensemble 21 Strings Plus, and the collaboration between Sound of Dragon Ensemble and Yueyun Elite. More acts to be announced.
The first class large chamber ensembles in Canada and Taiwan come together in the collaboration of the Turning Point Ensemble and the Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra. They will perform inter-cultural works by Canadian, Taiwanese, and international composers. After the festival, the ensembles will meet again on stage in multiple cities in Asia.
Both Sound of Dragon Ensemble and Yueyun Elite employ combinations of Chinese and western instruments. However, Sound of Dragon Ensemble is comprised of Vancouver’s top contemporary players and devoted to create and perform new works. Yueyun is comprised of Cantonese musicians devoted to perform traditional music. They will share the stage and perform works showcasing both styles.
