Breath of Life (2005) – Farshid Samandari, for cello & guitar
Shadows, indeed, may indicate the sun’s presence,
But only the sun displays the light of life.

Breath of Life aims to reconcile Persian and Western music. Persian angular phrases have renovated the baroque sonatina form, while species counterpoint has altered elaborations on different tetrachords of dastgáh-i-dashti. This piece proposes a plausible course to become “ the fruits of one tree, and the leaves of one branch.”
